Here are some of our favorite winter adventures:

Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding

Situated within 90 minutes of eight ski resorts, Buena Vista is in the heart of skiing and snowboarding country. Beat the traffic and lodge in the beautiful town of Buena Vista, and you’ll have access to a wide variety of slopes, such as Monarch Mountain, Ski Cooper or Copper Mountain

Backcountry Hut Trips

Have you ever tried a hut trip? You’ll get a true Colorado experience as you trek to one of the 10th Mountain Division huts near Buena Vista. The 10th Mountain Division manages 34 backcountry huts that can only be reached on skis or snowshoes in wintertime. These huts offer comfortable shelter, many offering beds, stoves, and even toilets. Learn more and book your trip!

Backcountry Skiing

Enjoy the Colorado mountains without the ski resort crowd by backcountry skiing with Buena Vista Mountain Adventures (BVMA). BVMA provides guided backcountry tours in stunning areas of The San Isabel National Forest. Guides utilize snowmobiles to access untracked powder in the bowls and glades of the high country, some of the best backcountry ski terrain in all of Colorado. Skiing through untouched snow and discovering Colorado’s backcountry is an experience you won’t soon forget. But before you head to the backcountry, swing by The Trailhead, and we’ll fit you up with some skis for your trip.

Cross Country (Nordic) Skiing

If you’re not quite ready for backcountry skiing, then try Cross Country Skiing (also known as Nordic skiing).  Nordic skiing is great for those of all skill levels. If you need instruction, the guides at Buena Vista Mountain Adventures will teach you and will direct your route through fresh powder. We have all the gear you need for these excursions, so visit our rentals page or stop by our shop, and we’ll suit you up.

Hot Springs

After adventuring through the snow, relax in Buena Vista’s 100% natural, odorless hot springs at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort or Cottonwood Hot Springs. While you can enjoy these rejuvenating hot springs at any time of year, it’s especially rewarding after a cool winter day in Buena Vista.

Snowshoeing

Explore Buena Vista trails in wintertime by snowshoeing through snow-covered forests and trails. You can use many of the same hiking routes as you do in the summer, but feel free to ask us for directions or additional route ideas. All you need to do is stop by The Trailhead, and we'll get you some snowshoe rentals and give you directions.
