“”Fourteenering” and Peak Bagging are perhaps our “corest” competencies! Chaffee County is home to more 14,000+ foot peaks than any other county in the United States - - including Alaska. The Sawatch Range forms the western border of Chaffee County and hosts the Collegiate Peaks. The Collegiates and other peaks comprise the 12 “Fourteeners” that gives the region one of its names.

Our Fourteeners afford a variety of activities. Mountaineers find late-winter and early-spring conditions on our peaks to be excellent training grounds for more challenging ascents, such as Denali, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood, Mt. Baker, the Mexican volcanoes, Kilimanjaro, and others.

Late spring and summers bring conditions more to the liking of Peak Baggers and Fourteener enthusiasts. To these climbers, too, we say, “Welcome!” We stand ready to assist you in whatever way we can, from provisions to advice to weather forecasts and local knowledge.
